The amount of cake you’ll need depends on when you’re serving it. Are you planning to serve it as dessert or as an evening treat? Portion sizes vary based on the occasion:

• Dessert portions are 2” x 1” x 5” tall, perfect for a more generous serving.

• Tea portions are 1” x 1” x 5” tall, ideal for a smaller bite.

If you’re serving your cake in the evening, I recommend planning for around 75–80% of your guest count to have a slice. Not everyone will indulge, especially after a full meal and dancing.

To ensure everyone gets a piece, you might consider adding kitchen cakes, which are less elaborately decorated and served behind the scenes. This allows you to have a smaller display cake without skimping on servings.

Alternatively, if you’d love a show-stopping centerpiece but don’t need as many servings, you could incorporate faux tiers—decorative, non-edible tiers that add height and grandeur. While this can reduce the cake size, please note that much of the cost comes from the artistry and time spent decorating, so savings may be modest.
